Name of the dish and origin:
Chocolate Cake - A cake that is thought to have been developed around the late 1800's in the USA. This dish first came around when chefs/bakers added chocolate/cocoa powder to their cake recipes. What inspired you to make the dish:
It's almost 1 week until my shoulder surgery and I wanted to do something extravagant before I lost use of my right hand for a good 2 months.
What did you like about the food:
The cake recipe I used was excellent and will be my go to recipe for chocolate cake. It was moist, rich, deeply and chocolate-y. It was also fun to make with all the weird and funky ingredients. What would you have done differently or how did you modify the recipe:
I would have used slightly less chocolate ganache but even that was great. I did not use the frosting recipe in the video, instead I made a chocolate ganache. I whipped the leftover ganache to then make the decorations at the top. Also, if the recipe did not have enough chocolate, I grinded some chocolate and add it to the side of the cake for additional texture and taste. I used different brands than the one in the video, however used the same recipe overall.
I used a chocolate ganache recipe instead of the chocolate buttercream frosting for 2 main reasons:
1. I am not a big fan of frostings in general. I feel they are too sweet and are just filler material to make cakes look bigger.
2. Ganache is far easier to make.
