Tres Leche Cake

Name of the dish and origin:

Tres Leches Cake - Tres Leches cake is a sponge cake soaked in 3 different types of milk. The origins of the dish are somewhat shrouded in mystery but soaked cakes have been popular in Europe since the medieval period. What is not disputed is that Tres Leches became very popular in North, South and Central America. The varieties of Tres Leches Cakes are as endless as the enormous amount of places that it is popular.

What inspired you to make the dish:

Tres Leches Cake has always been a favorite of mine at work for birthdays. It is something that as a group, we would order from a grocery store. I thought I could do it better, and I also wanted some practice making cakes for several cakes I was planning on making for some upcoming birthdays.

What did you like about the food:

The cake turned out amazingly. The base recipe is very simple and the ingredients used were minimal but really pulled through. The cake also looked impressive, something that Tres Leches Cake sometimes lacks.

What would you have done differently or how did you modify the recipe:

I did not modify the recipe in terms of quantity. The main difference is that the recipe I used has the cake as a single layer pan cake but I made it into a layered cake. This was just some extra work to make it look impressive but didn't really add any flavor to take cake. I also would add 50% extra milk to the soak as well. Proportion and flavorwise, the cake was outstanding.

What recipe did you use:
