IDEA

In my “Creating a Regional Theatre” Class, the course was focused on inventing a regional theatre in the United States. The theatre needs to fit well into the city, and it’s mission is to provide a type of entertainment the audience would enjoy. I needed to create the logo, mission statement, the show session, a grant for the space, and pricing model.

Entertainment has long served as an outlet to escape one’s daily life. I view media, specifically live events like theatre, as an opportunity for audiences to engage both individually and collectively in an experience or an idea that supersedes their everyday lives.  For these reasons, I chose to create an immersive horror regional theatre based in Portland. This project was very special to me, as it allowed me to envision my own theatre company and research the location, shows, and pricing I believe would fit best in this space. It culminated all of my learning from previous theatre courses, such as Producing a Show, and business courses, such as Private Equity and Investing, into one project.

MISSION STATEMENT

Tell Tale Theatre immerses its audience in thrilling horror stories just waiting to be explored. Experience the wondering, fearing, doubting, and dreaming evoked by retelling the lore of our past, present, and future. Tell Tale brings hair-raising literary works to life in avant-garde ways that ignite the true imagination of its audience members.

Using the eclectic city of Portland as our backdrop and the historic Heathman Hotel as our stage, this theatre pushes artists to dive deeper in character development and foster the creative community in the area. The Heathman Hotel features world-class art and a vast library. The appreciation of both history and art makes the iconic hotel the prime location for horror theatre. Not only does our theatre invite members of the community but also presents a little slice of Portland art to visitors of the Hotel.

Tell Tale Theatre encourages all audiences to follow them on a journey through staged productions, campfire readings, and even interactive stories, pushing both the actors and audience to question fact versus fiction. Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s harrowing stories, this theatre presents darker tales that anyone will relish.
